MPA Architects, as it is known today, began as a sole proprietorship in 1956 by Joseph L. Mathews. A few years later, Ervin F. Purucker began working with Joe and the firm became known as Mathews and Associates. In 1970, a young man named Stephen A. Anella joined them and in time the firm became a corporation and the name was changed to Mathews Purucker Anella, Inc. Today Mr. Anella is the President and CEO Emeritus with Jacquelyn S. Hilderbrandt as President, Treasure of the Corporation and Director of Operations, and Dean R. Bergeman as Vice President, Secretary of the Corporation and Director of Design. MPA Archietcts is now a Woman Business Enterprise with Ms. Hilderbrandt as majority owner of the firm. Ms. Hilderbrandt and Mr. Bergeman have been with the firm since 1987 and 1991 respectively. The principals are supported by nine additional people. Services provided include all aspects of architecture, planning and interior design. Engineering services such as structural, mechanical and electrical are provided through consultants.
Throughout its history, MPA has developed experience in a wide and diversified range of project types, including commercial, industrial, educational, public transportation, religious, health care, law enforcement, recreational, single and multi-family, and retirement housing. Both restoration and remodeling projects are part of our portfolio. The firm has over one thousand commissions to its credit throughout Indiana, Michigan and Illinois. Over 90% of our projects were for repeat clients, which is a testimony to the service we provide. We have been serving one particular client since 1958.
Today the firm is known as MPA Architects and each day we add to its history. 2008 marks the firm's 52nd anniversary - a great reason to celebrate!
